Mascot Pop-Up

mascot pop-up shop

This weekend I went to a super fun pop-up shop at my favorite new shop in Oakland. Mascot has awesome vintage housewares and on Saturday they also had a bunch of awesome local vendors come sell their stuff, including my sister who was selling her jewelry, What About Phoenix? I got a super cute new vintage top from Mousevox, then I headed over to Homeroom and got some mac & cheese for lunch.

Hot Sauce & Irish Cream

ball mason jars
homemade irish creamhomemade hot sauce

For homemade gifts this year, I made hot sauce and Irish cream to bring to my parents. They turned out alright, but there are definitely things I would do differently next time.

I got the Hot Sauce recipe from the etsy how tuesday blog. I was going to make it last year and didn't get around to it. It is tasty, but I didn't make it spicy enough, and I couldn't find the lid of my blender when I was making it, so I had to blend it in the magic bullet, which I would not recommend, it left a few too many chili chunks for my liking. The flavor was really nice though, and I'll definitely try it again.

I got the Irish Cream recipe from the design sponge blog. It was tasty, but I definitely would use less whiskey next time. The cream base was soo decadent though, I will definitely try it again but less boozy so you can taste more than just the alcohol.

Finally, for the labels, I used the Pugly Pixel Letterpress Effects Tutorial as a guide, though it didn't really show through as much when I printed them as it did on the screen. I still think they turned out pretty cute though, and I like making something homemade for giving at the holidays so, overall the projects were a success.

Merry Christmas Cleanup

christmas ornaments

Well, the blog really got neglected over the holidays, didn't it! Since we took down the tree and are putting away the decorations, I thought I'd post some of my favorite ornaments.

A tree and a wee, I made this little decoration years ago using this freebie pattern from Wee Wonderfuls, which is probably the blog I've been reading longer than any other.

And, a yule log! My mom ordered way too many, but very cute and tasty desserts for Christmas, and this was my favorite.

Even though the tree is gone, I saved 2 bowls of pine needles to make sachets. Our tree this year smelled amazing and I was sad to part with it for that reason more than any other, so I'll be happy to keep the smell around even after all other evidence of Christmas is gone.
